The Second Spring Arts Festival showcases creative accomplishments of those 60 plus and promotes Winston-Salem as the City of Arts & Innovation. The yearly celebration features visual and literary arts, demonstrations, music and dance and presentations from notable speakers and performers.
Nancy Hall started the festival with the idea of promoting creativity among older adults and encouraging them to participate in the arts. She is a former president of the Forsyth County Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons. In 2010, she was selected as a volunteer to the White House Conference on Aging. Hall designed and taught the first course in gerontology offered at UNC’s School of Social Work.
“My original intent was, and still is, to showcase some of the best artists we have in terms of literary, visual and performing arts and in turn, to inspire others to explore their creativity. The festival provides the avenue to do that,” said Hall.
